Get ready for parking fines via CCTV
The BBC is reporting on some major changes to parking laws coming in March 2008. One of the scariest aspects is that councils will be able to use CCTV images to issue parking fines even with no traffic warden or police present. This could mean that if you stop on double yellows to quickly pick up your Chinese takeaway (or whatever), you could then legally be slapped with a fine.
I must admit, all of the new “average speed” speed cameras that have sprung up all over the place in the last year have forced me to enable the 70 mph alarm on the car, so I stay under the limit. This development might now stop me going anywhere that has bad parking.
